Hi All
I just took apart a queen anne style chair, that I am going to refininsh and reupholster. I found the strapping was done in burlap and the stuffing is make of straw and cotton. The inside edging is rolled paper nailed down on the seat and the backrest has an edging of old yellow foam strip. My question is anybody got any idea how old this chair may be? I have no history of this chair, it was a found item that I really liked the shape of and thought it would be a great chair for beside my bed.

You can't tell from the upolstry, it may have been re-done who knows how many times. You have to look at the style, and how the frame is constructed. BTW it only looks like straw.

" BTW it only looks like straw."

If it's not straw then what is it?

Cliff I do plan to reupholster it anyway.
I was just curious (sp) as to how old it is, that it would still have the straw stuffing.

It's an older piece & may even have some value - maybe.

But if you plan on using it then what the hell re-upholster it. They don't use straw any more. It's all foam padding.

It's a damn shame about the foam padding, too, I miss the Furniture Guys on public television talking about "horse har".
