Has anyone had any success with repairing a remote control?
I found this website: www.keypadrepair.com/
In the past, I bought a printer cleaning/repair kit and I ended up ruining the whole printer.
I guess I'm a bit gun shy since the remote in question works well except I can't seem to turn the boom box on with it. The remote shuts off the boom box and all the other functions work properly.
Any ideas or suggestions?

Re: Remote Repair?
Fri, September 18, 2009 - 9:11 AMI would steer clear of taking apart remote to fix the problem you describe as it sounds more like a programming issue than a bad keyboard problem.
Assuming that you can get your hands on manual for remote, you might try using a different programming code for boom box and see if that helps. Manuals are often a bit vague about which of several program codes apply to a particular mfr-model pairing so trial-and-error
becomes necessary.
Unlike your experience with printer cleaning, trial & error solutions to software issues can be a bit more forgiving if one is careful to document initial settings. (I would also say, take care to make backup copies, but that doesn't really apply to remote control devices).

Re: Remote Repair?
Fri, September 18, 2009 - 9:34 AMI don't have a manual with this because I bought it second hand and it was discontinued in 2006.
However, I was using the remote with a battery powered boom box. The back light on the display didn't light up in addition to the remote not turning the boom box on.
I just plugged in the boom box and both the back light and the on button works perfectly with the remote! Could this be a battery issue in the boom box? I've never encountered something like this before. It's odd.
Thanks for the info regarding not purchasing the repair kit. I think you are right.

As you have guessed, it is a problem with the batteries of the boombox.
They are probably too low, or may be the contacts are dirty.
When the boombox is off, the receiver of the remote still needs to be powered so that it can listed to the "on" signal from the remote.
It looks like your batteries are not providing enough energy to keep the receiver on.

Sometimes, a cleverly constructed google search can uncover a copy of obsolete/discontinued manuals. I usually try the model number of the product and the word "manual"
<Could this be a battery issue in the boom box?>
What he said.

I wasn't too keen on the website link as resonated "scam" to me. Even if keyboard cleaning was what you needed, I would be more comfortable either sourcing the cleaning materials from Radio Shack or a more broadly focussed online vendor such as www.timemotion.com/Departme...cals.aspx

Fri, September 18, 2009 - 1:48 PMThank you both for all your help.
I'll change the batteries and look for an obsolete manual online. If all else fails, on to Radio Shack it is!
Have a great weekend,
