I have an AEG sabre saw I inherited. The model is SSPE 800. The Mach no. is 269621. I would like to use it, but I cannot figure out how to change the blade. This does not have quick release anything. There are three alan wrench screws, so I figured that was it but I cannot figure out how to get the blade out. No manual either... I tried to find one, but I think this one is so old, they never put the manual on line. Does any one have any ideas on how to change the blade on this?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Sawzall
Sat, April 25, 2009 - 1:04 PMI haven't used that particular saw but looking at this picture (www.tradera.com/TIGERSAG-A...9519290#pic ) it looks like you can sight through the slot in the metal foot on one side to get at the allen screw clamping the blade to the reciprocating shaft of the saw.
You might have to move the blade to its furthest extended position. You can do this by (gloved or rag wrapped) hand tugging on the blade or by plugging it in and cheating it out with a light touch on the trigger. -

Sun, April 26, 2009 - 5:09 AMI took all three screws out., the blade will not budge. I wonder now if it is broken somehow. Rats.
Thanks for the help though! -

Re: Sawzall
Sun, April 26, 2009 - 9:41 AMTry hitting it with some rust penetrating lubricant yet? It's possible that it's gunked in. Also look for little catches and screws on other axises of the blade, possibly on the casing away from the business end... -

Re: Sawzall
Sun, April 26, 2009 - 10:12 AMDefinitely soak the whole thing in something like good ol' WD-40 first. -

Re: Sawzall
Sun, April 26, 2009 - 9:03 PMOlder reciprocal saws had no quick release, but used 2 or 3 setscrews cranked down tight on the blade to hold it in place. You need to release the setscrews with the allyn keys and then the blade will slide in & out.
If the blade still won't budge then it may be corroded in place, or else jammed in by some broken off part in there. Let's say it's rusted/corroded in place? Then likely wiggling the blade gripped by Vise-grips, or else tapping on sides & end of blade with hammer, might serve to dislodge it. Some sort of penetrating oil might help loosen things too, when squirted into suspected area of jamup.
Failing that, then take it all apart to see what's going on in the hope of being able to fix it. May as well, the way it is now is unusable anyway.

Re: Sawzall
Mon, April 27, 2009 - 5:48 AMThanks. I am going to give that a try. I removed all the screws but it will not budge. I will try some PB blaster and if that does not work, try to other suggestions.

Re: WAS Sawzall should be "Reciprocating" saw"
Mon, April 27, 2009 - 9:40 AMIn the interest of purity of expression and accuracy:
The expression "Sawzall" is the trade name Milwaukee Inc., uses for its "reciprocating saw."
AEG calls theirs the "AEG Sabre saw" It is hard to know if the "sabre saw" part is trade name or just informative.
As a general proposition you can't trade mark ( in the US) a common word.
So if you want to name your company the Hammer company and in fact you make hammers it should not be possible to get that trade name registered and protected. If however. you don't make Hammers then you probably can name it the Hammer company.
And of course there are plenty of exceptions.

Re: WAS Sawzall should be "Reciprocating" saw"
Mon, April 27, 2009 - 12:40 PMto be even more accurate- --
Milwaukee is THE sawzall.
the rest- ehh, why..
Sabre saw= really odd choice of name, shows how it just isn't a sawzall... i always heard of a jigsaw being a sabre saw, making it in my eyes less than a sawzall
wiki=
The powered sabre saw is typically a larger more powerful jigsaw and is usually referred to generically as a reciprocating saw. The main distinction between the sabre/reciprocating saw and the jigsaw is that its overall appearance is somewhat reminiscent of a sabre sword.
ANYWAY soak that thing up and get the blade out already i want to see a happy ending to this one ! -

Re: WAS Sawzall should be "Reciprocating" saw"
Mon, April 27, 2009 - 2:03 PM....my bad....
change "reciprocal" to "reciprocating".
In 1989, I swapped an old Benjamin pellet pistol for a Rockwell brand reciprocating saw. [same company as used to make the B-1 bomber]. And it still works well. And it works that same way too, with the setscrew -secured blades. It can cut through thick angle iron, not to mention softer goods. If you look hard you can still find some American made equipment out there.

Mon, April 27, 2009 - 2:20 PMIn a related incident , which may appeal to your prurient interests, this recent news story tells the unfortunate outcome of what hapened when a Maryland guy attached a sex toy to his reciprocating saw, and then handed it over to his girlfriend.

Mon, April 27, 2009 - 4:44 PMThe idiots left a blade on the thing?
I was expecting something about how it caused friction burns ( the dammed things are fast) but they left a blade in the thing?
The stupidity of people never ceases to amaze me.
And they let them vote and breed. The two things they should never be allowed to do. -

Tue, April 28, 2009 - 6:36 AM***************They allow 'em to serve jury duty as well. I just got home from jury selection**********
for reasons I've never liked many attorneys prefer the stupider jurors on the belief that they can run a game on them more easily.
I have always preferred smart jurors who will be able to give due consideration to my points and arguments.

It can be very frightening. -

Re: WAS Sawzall should be "Reciprocating" saw"
Tue, April 28, 2009 - 6:40 AMDaphne: The AEG web site claims the blade is changed without the use of any tools. This may or not reflect your saw because they wouldn't be talking about a prior generation saw if it didn't have a tool-less blade change.
If there is no screw on your saw associated with the blade holder than you prolly have a tool-less blade change system.
Bosch has such a thing you throw a lever. Look for a button to push or a level to throw. Fiddle with it while the machine is unplugged.
In the Bosch system to insert a blade you just push it in to the receiver till you hear a click and it stays in. To extract it you throw a lever.
I'd guess AEG is similar.
