<div>Re: the building a chicken coop thread, This is a portable chicken coop/chicken tractor that I built last year for a suburban family. The trade was for 12 gallons of high grade olive oils. It is built mostly from recycled materials. I tried to ue light weight woods to the extent that I had them around. The door to the nest box/roosting area is open and hanging down in the picture. The small door for chicken access to this area is openable and closable from the outside with a couple of strings and a cleat so that you don't have to go into the "run" to close it in the evening. The pictures of the finished coop got lost, but a light weight roof of redwood members and aluminum siding was added. The screened door on the right is the access door to the run. The coop part was built as a loft so that the chickens would have more real estate and shade underneath it. The ramp to the coop is just visible and there are two roosts not in the picture, one in the coop part, and one in the run. I'm building another one to use here. It will be slightly modified, but essentially the same. I'll add wheels on the back though to make it easy to move around. Unfortunately, their next door neighbor (who has big loud scary dogs), complained to the city and they had to get rid of their chickens, so I haven't got much feedback on how it is to actually use.

I used this site for inspiration
